1. City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor announced Friday that one of the city’s former crime prevention programs is now under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. The controversial and now defunctCrime Free” program would give notice to an apartment complex landlord that a tenant was involved in a crime. Several people say they were unjustly targeted by the program, although it is disputed. 90% of 1,100 people flagged by the program were Black and will now be probed by the Justice Department. 2. The Tampa Police Department is investigating a woman’s death after she fell from the 5th floor of a hotel. The department said the woman fell from the Ramada Inn on Westshore Boulevard. According to police, the woman was visiting Tampa and had no other ties to the area. (WFLA)

3. A man who bit a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy Thursday morning is now dead, according to officials. Investigators said they have reason to believe the man may have been a victim of a crime before his interactions with law enforcement. According to the sheriff’s office, the man suffered a medical episode after he was taken into custody and became unresponsive. (Fox 13 Tampa)

4. Pasco County school bus drivers began demanding more money for the second time in a week. A group gathered outside of the administration building on Friday morning and told the local news that their responsibilities do not match their pay. The starting wage stands at $13.40 an hour. (WFLA)

5. A federal judge in Orlando ruled Friday that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention properly mandated masks for airline passengers, a contrary decision to an order issued by a federal judge in Tampa less than two weeks ago. (Florida Politics)
