1. Rumble, a YouTube alternative that recently opened a headquarters in Sarasota’s Longboat Key, will continue to broadcast RT on its video platform despite a worldwide crackdown on the Russian state-controlled news network. Facebook and Instagram have designated RT as “Russian state-controlled media.” (Sarasota Patch)

2. An unemployed Tampa travel nurse recruiter has been blocked from state unemployment benefits after working 25 hours as a customer service phone representative. He said the fight to get unemployment benefits reinstated has been a “total nightmare” since he worked one week taking customer service calls before his dismissal. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity posted a notice that his request for benefits would have to be reviewed by a state adjudicator. The man is now facing threat of eviction as well. 3. NFL Hall of Famer and former Florida Gator Emmitt Smith was in Tampa this Friday to speak at an event aimed at helping minority men get to college. The Black, Brown College Bound Summit is organized by Hillsborough Community College and aims to help get more Black and Latino men “to and through college.” (WTSP)

4. An upcoming mermaid show at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium has been cancelled after news broke that performers were recorded without their knowledge in December 2020 as they changed into their mermaid costumes. A number of executives have been fired and resigned since the incident was discovered. (WFLA)

5. The inflation rate in the Tampa Bay area is currently near 10%, which is above the national average of about 7.5%, according to University of South Florida economist Michael Snipes. Snipes said the rising price to produce goods is compounded by increasing gas prices. (Fox 13 Tampa)
